ARIN 55 Day 3 Recap
We’ve concluded the third and final day of the ARIN 55 Public Policy and Members Meeting! A big thank you to all who participated in person and virtually and helped make this another productive and engaging event. To reference anything you’ve seen at the meeting, visit our meeting materials page. Over the coming days, links to the full transcript and webcasts will be added to this page as well. In the meantime, here’s an overview of what happened on Day Three — it’s brief, like the agenda was!
The Final Countdown
After Hollis Kara, Director of Communications, provided a warm welcome, a thank you to our elected volunteers, opening announcements, and a reminder about our ombudsperson — along with another shout out to our meeting sponsors, Spectrum, Google, AWS, and IPXO — we got right into the final presentations of ARIN 55, beginning with department reports.
Communications Manager Ashley Perks was up first with the Communications Department update. She introduced the Comms team and what they’re working on, including key deliverables, mailing lists promotion, internal collaboration, and upcoming ARIN events, along with an update on the ARIN Consultation and Suggestion Process and a social media and blog roundup. Among other 2025 milestones, Ashley highlighted Origin AS retirement in July and the ongoing ICP-2 Review process discussed in Day One’s Address Supporting Organization Address Council Update. She also reminded the community that a consultation on enforcing hierarchical naming for AS-SETs is currently open and encouraged you to submit your feedback.
Hollis Kara stepped in for Director of Customer Experience and Strategy (CXS) Joe Westover to provide an overview of the CXS team, process roadmap progression, and key priorities ahead along with a spotlight on outreach and programs — particularly the Premier Support Plan (PSP) and the Qualified Facilitators program.

Next up, Chief Human Resources Officer Erin Alligood introduced ARIN’s HR and Administration team and its responsibilities. She shared 2024 highlights and 2025 projects including: 401(k) audit and administrator transition; staff and volunteer training; a holiday toy drive; a staff workshop on value statements; and more. Erin also reviewed ARIN’s value statements and noted that we continue to maintain a strong employee tenure averaging nine years.
Closing out the department reports, Director of Registration Services Lisa Liedel shared a workload snapshot, recent and upcoming operational improvements, challenges and trends, customer experience highlights, integrity and security initiatives, and community-driven enhancements. Comments touched on the pros and cons of using AI chatbots to support user requests and the interest in live reports on Registration Services Department statistics in order to assess the effects of recent policy changes.
Our meeting emcee and Director of Communications, Hollis Kara, was up next to present the latest on ARIN’s training initiatives. She shared a 2024 year-in-review, info on what we offer and where you can access it, and a sneak peek at our new learning management system, ARIN Academy, which launches next month with the first two free, interactive courses: Getting Started with ARIN Online and Enhancing Your Routing Security with ARIN’s Hosted RPKI. Comments included the interest in informational materials targeting higher level audiences and excitement for the new training platform from a newcomer to IPv6.

With the penultimate report of ARIN 55, General Counsel Michael Abejuela shared the General Counsel Update covering the legal team’s activities, acknowledging the Government Affairs team, and providing a detailed update on AFRINIC. A follow up question returned to the topic of AI tools like chatbots and the legal perspective on them; John Curran requested that community members submit suggestions to indicate what specific function on behalf of ARIN they would want AI to address (site search, for example).

And last but not least, Board Trustee Rob Seastrom provided an update from the Risk and Cybersecurity Committee (RCC), which he chairs. Beginning with the example of the risk and impact of his presentation running over time and delaying a coffee break, he explained what the RCC is and what it does, why it exists, and how it tracks and prioritizes risks by using a risk register. He provided examples of real risks and a by-the-numbers review of trends before concluding with a look at what the RCC does with the risk register. The topic generated questions and comments from the community that Rob, John Curran, and Chief Financial Officer Brian Kirk responded to, addressing: clarification on how risks and remediations are assessed and the time horizon applied; positive feedback on the proactive nature of the RCC; the universal and unique categories of risks included in the register; ideas for evolving the RCC report; whether the ARIN risk register could be made public; and ARIN’s investment strategy.
To wrap things up, ARIN President and CEO John Curran and Board of Trustees Chair Bill Sandiford hosted a very quick open mic session which consisted simply of Bill recognizing the meeting’s production team with a round of applause for their hard work behind the scenes.

Then we heard closing announcements and one more round of thanks to our sponsors from Hollis. And with that, ARIN 55 was in the books!
