Deploying ASPA: Tools, Workflows, and Lessons from the ARIN Perspective
Wednesday, 28 October, 8:30 a.m.–9:00 a.m. CT
Brad Gorman, ARIN Director of Customer Technical Services

The ARIN perspective on Autonomous System Provider Authorization (ASPA) focuses on strengthening interdomain routing security within the Resource Public Key Infrastructure (RPKI). ASPA introduces a cryptographically verifiable mechanism for validating customer-provider relationships between Autonomous Systems, addressing a key gap not covered by origin validation alone.

This presentation outlines how ASPA complements existing Route Origin Authorization by enabling detection and mitigation of route leaks, one of the most persistent classes of BGP incidents. We will explore ARIN’s role in supporting ASPA deployment, including provisioning workflows, integration into existing RPKI tooling, and operational considerations for network operators. Attendees will gain a practical understanding of ASPA object structure, validation logic, and policy implications, along with deployment strategies that align with ARIN’s broader mission to improve routing security, resilience, and trust across the global Internet.
