In today’s evolving threat landscape, securing the global routing infrastructure is more critical than ever. Resource Public Key Infrastructure (RPKI) plays a pivotal role in enhancing BGP security by providing cryptographic validation of route origins. This workshop — “RPKI Nuts and Bolts” — offers a practical, in-depth look at the mechanisms behind RPKI, focusing on its implementation and operational considerations for Network Operators.

Attendees will:

  • Gain insights into the role of Regional Internet Registries in the RPKI ecosystem
  • Learn the purpose and function of Relying Party (validator) software
  • Understand the benefits of Route Origin Validation (ROV)
  • Pick up new troubleshooting tips and techniques to determine the RPKI validity state of their resources

In addition, this workshop provides a hands-on opportunity for participants to configure multiple RPKI validators and understand their operational capabilities. Furthermore, attendees will become familiar with the syntax required to create route policies and perform RPKI Origin Validation across multiple networking platforms. Through real-world examples and deployment guidance, network operators will be prepared to confidently adopt and manage RPKI deployments in their environments.

Safeguarding Registry Integrity: ARIN’s Approach to Preventing Fraud
Wednesday, 11 June, 4:30-4:45 MT, Plaza Ballroom ABC
Presented by: John Sweeting, ARIN Chief Experience Officer

As the scarcity and value of IPv4 resources continue to rise, so does the risk of fraudulent activity targeting the ARIN registry. This includes identity theft, policy abuse, and the fraudulent use of business registrations to obtain resources — all of which threaten the trust and accuracy foundational to ARIN’s operations.

In this 15-minute session, John Sweeting, ARIN’s Chief Customer Experience Officer, will share how ARIN is evolving its defenses through enhanced validation procedures, video verification, proactive audits, and the creation of a dedicated Registry Integrity and Oversight (RIO) team. Attendees will hear real-world insights into ARIN’s fraud prevention strategies, the steps being taken to verify legitimate organizations, and the community’s role in protecting Internet number resources.
