ACSP Suggestion 2009.5: Distribution of ARIN Member Announcements

Suggestion

Author: Leo Bicknell
Submitted On: 20 April 2009

Description: Announcements that are sent to all ARIN members, like the email announcement of the officer attestation (https://www.arin.net/resources/agreements/officer_attest.html) should also be announced to PPML. Many of the folks most interested in policy are not the POC for an ARIN member, and thus don’t get these direct notices. By providing copies on PPML they will be up to date on ARIN activities while considering policy proposals.

ARIN constantly weighs the merit of sending a general announcement to more than one list, noting that many people are subscribed to one or more of the ARIN lists and we don’t wish to “spam” folks. Occasionally we post to both arin-announce and arin-ppml, most often when announcing new policy implementations. With regard to the specific issue you address in your suggestion, the POCs for the organizations impacted were sent a separate and direct email concerning the officer attestation requirement. We felt that was the best method to ensure the message got out to those in need.

Without taking any specific action on your suggestion, we will continue to carefully assess the effectiveness of our announcement distribution plan. It is our goal to get the important messages out to those who most need to know about them. Thank you for reminding us to be ever mindful of how we communicate with the community and members.
