ACSP Suggestion 2009.2: Promoting the Use of IPv6

Suggestion

Author: David Farmer
Submitted On: 16 March 2009

Description:

To help promote the use of IPv6, ARIN should display the IP address you are coming from on its main web page. Maybe this could be made part of the standard ARIN banner at the top of most ARIN Web pages.

It would be even better if it did something special if you are using IPv6, to provide positive reinforcement.

Three of the other four RIRs at least display the IP address you are coming from, currently only ARIN and LACNIC do not. APNIC adds something special if you are using IPv6, a little guy saying “Via IPv6.”

The display of a web visitor’s IP address (for both IPv4 and IPv6) has been enabled on the ARIN home page https://www.arin.net/index.html. This is in conjunction with the display of the IPv6-enabled banner for website visitors coming in over an IPv6 connection.

ARIN staff agrees that this is a good idea. We will explore the most efficient way to do this and will plan to roll it out with a future release the enhanced ARIN web account services. We cannot provide you a specific date for this feature, however we hope to make it available before the end of 2009. This suggestion will remain open until the suggested feature is deployed.
