ACSP Suggestion 2007.4: Calculate Stats

Suggestion

Author: Michael Dillon
Submitted On: 19 March 2007

Description:

I believe that ARIN should begin calculating statistics about IPv6 allocations in comparison to IPv4 allocations. Two parameters that I believe should be included would be the percentage of IPv4 allocees with an IPv6 allocation and the percentage of IPv4 assignees with an IPv6 allocation.

In addition, there may be additional IPv6 stats that could be calculated which are not at present so I think it would be good for staff to do a little bit of brainstorming on this issue.

Note, that I don’t have any problem with existing IPv6 stats, but I think that breaking out the data on existing IPv4 block holders who are adding an IPv6 allocation will give a truer picture of how much industry is planning for IPv6.

ARIN provides statistical information available at: ftp://ftp.arin.net/pub/stats/arin/.

The current format of this statistical information was agreed upon by all the RIRs. In order to generate the statistics requested it will be necessary to modify the ftp stats and coordinate this change with the other RIRs. Changes to the ftp stats file are publicly announced via arin-announce and the website.
