Problem Statement

Although the term “IANA” appears throughout Section 10 of the NRPM, there is no reference to any definition of the term. This proposal defines the term with reference to appropriate ICANN documentation.

Policy statement

Introduce a new Section 2.17 that reads as follows:

“2.17 Internet Assigned Names and Numbers (IANA)

The term Internet Assigned Names and Numbers (IANA) refers to a set of functions described in the document entitled IANA FUNCTIONS: THE BASICS issued by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).

Although this proposal was drafted in the course of an editorial review of Section 2 of the NRPM, the addition of a new definition may not be considered purely editorial in nature and so this proposal is not being presented as strictly editorial.
