On 19 March, ARIN performed a major upgrade of its database and provisioning system. The first set of zone files, generated and published on 20 March at approximately 2:00 AM EST, did not place name servers on some of the non-customer maintainable zones (169.254/16, 172.16/12, and 192.168/16). While the nameservers continued to display in ARIN’s Whois service, the zone file generation software did not write these non-maintainable zones to the zone files.

ARIN was notified of this omission in the evening of 9 April, and the zone file generation software was repaired and updated for the zone release on 10 April. The zone release on 10 April was visible at approximately 10:00 PM EDT and the non-customer maintainable zones were properly displayed.

We apologize of any inconvenience that this may have caused.

Regards,

Mark Kosters
Chief Technology Officer
American Registry for Internet Numbers (ARIN)
