On 3 September 2004, the Address Council submitted the Global Addressing Policy ASO-001-2 for the approval of the ICANN Board of Directors. The policy describes the procedure by which IANA will make IPv4 allocations to the Regional Internet Registries (RIRs).

ASO-001-2 has been approved in accordance with the four RIR’s local policy development process. As a result of that effort the policy was endorsed and submitted by the Number Resource Organization to the ASO Address Council.
