General Information
Albuquerque is the largest city in the state of New Mexico. It is the county seat of Bernalillo County and is situated in the central part of the state, straddling the Rio Grande. In 2006, Albuquerque ranked as the 33rd-largest city and 61st-largest metropolitan area in the U.S.
Albuquerque is home to the University of New Mexico (UNM) and Kirtland Air Force Base as well as Sandia National Laboratories and Petroglyph National Monument. The Sandia Mountains run along the eastern side of Albuquerque and the Rio Grande flows through the city north to south.

Rapid Ride is the name of the public transportation system in Albuquerque. ABQ RIDE operates twelve 60-foot articulated buses that run along the Central Avenue corridor and then north to Uptown. With 10-minute service, you're never waiting long for the next ride.

2007 Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta [more info]
The Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta is a world-renowned attraction and destination for kids of all ages. For more than three decades, the first week in October brings the smell of roasting chiles and the beautiful, magical moving picture show of hot air balloons sailing silently through the crisp fall air.
Guests from all over the world come to Albuquerque to celebrate ballooning. Literally hundreds of balloons will be taking flight from the Balloon Fiesta Park this year. The Balloon Fiesta will take place from 5-14 October 2007. Balloon Fiesta Park is located north of Alameda Boulevard, one mile west of I-25.
