IPv6 Request Process

ARIN staff presented information designed to help network engineers and administrators plan their initial IPv6 deployment in accordance with the ARIN IPv6 guidelines, criteria, and request process.

SWIP IT!

ARIN staff provided a comprehensive tutorial on the Shared WHOIS Project (SWIP) template and process used by ISPs for submitting reassignment information on their allocation. This information is used to propagate ARIN's WHOIS database. In addition to explaining its purpose, the tutorial offered line-by-line descriptions of the template, helpful hints for completing it, and how to avoid common errors that delay its processing.

Point-to-Point Protocol

PPP (Point-to-Point Protocol) is a mechanism that connects dial-up users to their Internet Service Providers (ISPs) through an IP address. The Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet (PPPoE) and the Point-to-Point Protocol over ATM (PPPoA) combine the PPP protocol with Ethernet and ATM technologies to provide high-speed Internet access using high-speed Broadband access technologies. However, PPP has limitations such as scalability that affect next generation broadband deployment.

This presentation demonstrated how users can take advantage of the functionality and services associated with DHCP, and web to capitalize on new, high-speed services. The speaker compared PPPoE with other protocols ability to handle high-speed broadband services, and identified cost-effective solutions that improve performance in areas like IP configuration and management, and provide the ability to support multiple services associated with next-generation broadband services.

Introduction to IPv6 DNS

IPv6 significantly changes the way DNS is used to resolve both forward and reverse addresses. In this tutorial, we examined both current and historical methods for IPv6 name resolution, covering AAAA and A6 records, and bitstring labels.

DNS Security Extensions and BIND 9.1

DNS Security Extensions are a set of improvements to DNS that make this critical service more reliable. This tutorial presented the basics of preparing secure zones, securing zone transfers, inclusion of certificates(e.g., PGP), and configuring name servers. Examples were drawn from BIND 9.1 serving IPv4 zones.
