ACSP Suggestion 2010.10: Schedule Fellows Meet and Greet with President and Chairman at all ARIN meetings

Suggestion

I would like to propose that the meet-and-greet that the fellows, mentors, President and Chairman had during an afternoon break be integrated into the formal meeting structure permanently.

I feel that it will have at least two positive effects:

  • allow the fellows to formally meet each other in a small group setting. As it currently is, if I didn't have the meet-and-greet, I would have had a hard time identifying who the other two fellows were
  • provide the fellows with a true sense of how open ARIN is, and that everyone is approachable and interested in what you have to say regardless of their title or position within ARIN

I can't decide whether it would be better to move this meet-and-greet up in the agenda to the first day, or leave it until the second or third day.

On one hand, I'm thinking that if it's on the first day, it may ease some nervousness, and allow the fellows to integrate more easily.

On the other hand, I enjoyed having it after some of the meeting had been completed (I did it on the third day). It gave me the opportunity to share some of my experiences, and better equipped me to ask more specific questions.

This is in response to your suggestion noted below and assigned number 2010.10 upon receipt of your confirmation.

We're glad that you found the Fellows Meet and Greet during the afternoon break in Toronto to be helpful. This is the first time we've hosted such an event and based off your suggestion we will integrate it into the Meetings Fellowship Program permanently. The specific day and time that the Meet and Greet occurs needs to remain flexible: based around the policy schedule and staff availability for each ARIN Meeting.
