Organization and Point-of-Contact (POC) Record Management

ARIN's registration database contains two types of records: resource records which represent IP address space delegations and AS numbers; and organization identifier (Org ID) and Point-of-Contact (POC) records which identify the recipients and managers of resources delegated from ARIN. Resource records are created when ARIN delegates resources, while Org IDs and POCs are created by the recipients and managers of those resources.

Before ARIN can delegate Internet number resources, an Org ID must be established for the organization making the request. The Org ID is an alphanumeric identifier that references an entity in the ARIN registration database.

Every Org ID must also have an Administrative and a Technical POC associated with it. Each POC in the ARIN database is assigned a handle in the format <base>-ARIN where <base> is a unique tag consisting of the initials of a person or role and a number. Additional POCs can be associated with either the Org ID record or a resource record. Additional types of POCs include "Abuse" and "Network Operations."
