Supported Browsers and Standards Compliance
Browsers
While any standards-compliant browser should work with our site, the following are known to work correctly.
Netscape Navigator 6.0 and higher (Netscape)
Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 and higher (Microsoft)
Opera 6.0 and higher (Opera)
Firefox 0.8 and higher, Mozilla 1.4 and higher (Mozilla)
Lynx 2.8.3 and higher
If you are using an earlier version of any of these browsers, your experience on our site will be improved by upgrading to the most current version. In addition, we cannot in any way ensure that our site works properly with the beta version of any browser.
ARIN endeavors to enable support for as many browsers as possible on its website. While not required to browse the site, we do recommend enabling server-side style sheets to ensure that you are able to view this site's pages as they were designed. All current pages are designed to be XHTML 1.0 and CSS 2 compliant. However, some archival materials on the website may not yet meet these standards.
We have tested our site with the browsers listed on the right and have verified that the site appears as intended. If you are having difficulty using our site with one of these browsers, please check your settings to make sure that Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) are enabled.
As per the recommendations of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), the layout of the pages on ARIN's website are separated from the content. This allows those visitors who do not wish to view graphics or who have special browsing needs to disable style sheets and still access all content on the website.
Compliance to Standards
In developing the new ARIN website, a major design goal was to meet the most current standards. This goal has been met, and links to the W3C's validation tools are available on almost every page. By meeting these standards, pages on the ARIN website now load more quickly and are accessible to the broadest possible audience.
As there currently does not exist a single browser in use that fully and completely supports the XHTML 1.0 or CSS 2 standards, users may occasionally experience issues when viewing pages on our site. In determining how XHTML and CSS were to be implemented in the design of the site, we took into account both the W3C standards and the support of features within current browsers. However, support for some older browsers was simply not possible due to their incomplete support or incorrect implementation of some portions of the standards.
In the development of our current website, we used numerous validation tools to ensure that the site would meet current standards and work with as broad a selection of browsers as possible. It is strongly suggested that if you are still using an older browser (released prior to 2000) that you upgrade to a more current version.
We will continue to update our site to reflect changes in standards development and adoption.
Accessibility
ARIN realizes the importance of making the content of its website accessible to the broadest selection of browsers and the broadest number of people. In designing the current website, accessibility for those with special browsing needs was another design goal. As stated before, the content of the pages on ARIN's website are separated from the layout. Through the use of external style sheets, we are able to provide an easy to navigate website, using the best layout possible, while at the same time the content can be accessed through screen readers, text-only browsers, and other tools. We made a special effort to restrict the use of tables for layout purposes, to provide alternative content for images, and to create document structures that are easy to understand. This is a continuing process and ARIN staff will continue to work to meet these needs.
If some facet of this website's style sheets causes problems in your ability to view the content, we suggest either configuring your browser to use your own style sheet or to disable style sheets entirely. This change will significantly alter the "look" of the site, but all content should still be accessible.
